Guestpost Bon Anniversaire Ketchup!

I just saw a notification from WordPress telling me we registered this blog three years ago. THREE YEARS! Could the Unreal Bride possibly be so many years old?  WOW! This calls for a celebration and a plan. Ironically, I came to write a post about a birthday celebration but not our own! This can only mean one thing- a combined birthday party!!!! Who is going to be our birthday buddy , you ask? Well none other than our favourite bag people (I say that in the nicest way possiple)- Ketchup! You know them well from our blog- we have done some of our favourite shoots with their products, had insane giveaways and have become great friends since then! If you know the Unreal Bride, you know Ketchup!!

Ketchup celebrated their 2nd birthday last month and to celebrate -they took a trip to gorgeous Paris. Anyone who visits Paris is sure to come back oozing with inspiration. So as a way to celebrate their birthday they wrote a guest post for us on Paris annnnd if you read to the bottom of the post, you might find a pleasant surprise waiting for you!

5 things about Paris (pronounced Fr. paˈri), that we L-O-V-E !

paris

Très chic:

Paris is the fashion capital of the world. The french, both men and women, don’t just love fashion, they understand the true essence of fashion and they sure as hell know how to rock some seriously hot haute couture – respect!

C’est si bon:

One simply can not get enough of the breads, the cheeses, the steaks, the wines, the mussels, the brews, the desserts – yes the desserts : when we say french desserts, we mean lots of delicious calories such as macaroons, mille-feuilles, profiteroles, eclairs, tarte tatins and crème brûlées!

nomnom

Talking of which… we could kill for a fresh french vanilla custard creme brûlée in a super cute cafe in Paris RIGHT NOW!

Bon appetit!

Très magnifique:

French architecture took our breath away .. The gardens, the ever-so-beautiful river Siene, the 18th century buildings, le tour d’eiffel, the champs-elysees, the museums. What’s not to love? Infact we even loved the windows, the open spaces, the boulevards and the sidewalks.

architecture

Je ne veux pas travailler:

The weather in Paris all through our birthday month was spectacular, the cool breeze and the slight drizzle along with the smell of freshly heated chestnuts made our walks in the pristine gardens along the river Siene simply surreal.

Le temps de l’amour :

The city of Paris is like a classic timeless black and white romantic movie!

2013-08-07_0006

Paris makes one want to fall in love, Paris makes one want to kiss…. and then keep kissing … and at Ketchup we love kissing .

muaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Paris je t’aime!

Photo Booth : The Vanity Fair

Remember that crazy month where we were running pillar to post organising/designing photo booths? You don’t? Well, we do because it was crazaaay! We set up this Hawaiian photo booth in Ludhiana , rushed home at 3 am to be back in time to set up this photo booth at the Vanity Fair! We managed to have almost everything in order. Almost. We didn’t do the most important thing- like print our catalogues, or our cards or make our photo albums for people to see what we do and how we work. Yes, lesson learnt the hard way. That said and done, we had two days of madness and boy! did people love the photo booth!! We are grateful to everyone who came (over and over again) and made the PhotoBooth a huge success.

A quick note on the Vanity Fair before we jump to the photos-Vanity Fair is like a garden market (only it’s HUGE) that happens twice a year in Chandigarh in a place called Whispering Willows. Everyone who lives in or around Chandigarh knows Whispering Willows- hundreds of people have had their weddings there -in fact, that is where my brother got married and we had our engagement party! It never fails to be the best venue ,have the best food and best service. The lady behind the Vanity Fair is Priya Grewal- she has been organising the fair for many years now and is an expert at it. Everything runs flawlessly and the 5000 + (or is it 10000+?)visitors to the two day fair enjoy shopping and eating and just hanging out! You can find pretty much anything under the sun at The Vanity Fair from wedding stuff, clothes for kids, home decor, beauty products, music, beer, food and even a photo booth! We are so grateful to Priya for offering us a spot this year to set up our Photo Booth. It was a blast!

Even though it was October and the weather should’ve been pleasant, it was HOT HOT HOT!

We had a spot by the pool and just pretended we were by a beach – tanning!

At our engagement party, we had this bright pink scooter that we used as a prop- that inspired us to paint this bicycle blue-isn’t it adorable?

Looks like fun , huh? It was! Can’t wait till the next Vanity Fair- I have a feeling we will be there again ! 🙂

Thursday Thoughts : Favourable Favours

With Indian weather the way it is – the winter months are a mad rush of activity. Weddings, festivals, holidays – they all come together like a windfall of good cheer, rich food, parties, presents, more parties, high spirits, lots of meeting and greeting and even more parties.

Regardless of who you are or who you know, it is a given that your house will be flooded with all types of greeting cards, Diwali presents and of course, many wedding invitations.

I, for one, am always excited to open up the decorative box that accompanies invitations. Everytime I open one, I feel like I might just find something imaginative, creative or just plain different. I’m saddened to report that I’m rarely overjoyed to see the contents.

Dry fruit? Really? Don’t get me wrong. I know its traditional and all that and probably costs the earth to send out to hundreds of invitees but in this new, creative, artistic and innovative world order is there nothing more extraordinary that we can do??

I know I write this piece at the risk of being harshly scratched off many-a-list but without fearing the consequences i must say this – I have nothing against mithai, but gigantic laddoos are a big no no – pun intended.

Fact remains that some people dont ‘want’ to do things differently and I don’t mean to offend anyone – but, if you’re one of the few who do want to make their invitations memorable, we have a few pointers.

A couple of wedding invitations have stood out in my mind as particularly nice. Among these was a box of fig chocolate – how cool!

Then there was a box that contained a disposable camera – for use at the wedding, and a cd of music that we could expect to hear at the sangeet!

Sadly, that’s it folks – in the time span of a quarter of a century, only ‘two’ invitations made it to my long term memory.

Here are our ideas :

1. Homemade (or made in someone elses home) fruit preserve or marmalade.

2. Jars of organic honey

3. Personalized shot glasses

4. Cake pops

5. Cupcakes

6. Packet of seeds of your favourite plant or even a tree!

7. Marshmallows

I have to add this even though my mother said a firm NO when I suggested it,

8. Chilly pickle

If I was to get any of the above with an invitation card I would

a) be overjoyed

b) thank the gods I have such cool friends

c) definitely attend the wedding – and isn’t that the whole point after all?

A post on how to package these favours prettily is coming up soon! Stay tuned. Over and out.
