Of Marry-ment and Marigolds

The internet is a wonderful place-the kind of connections you can make because of it are countless. If used correctly that is. Ofcourse, it gives stalkers the best opportunity to stalk and be creepy but you have to be a smart internet user. Anyway, you all already know that. I am only talking about it because it was because of our mutual healthy stalking that I discovered the amazing photographers Sitwat & Insiya who are based in Karachi.

First, we stalked each other on Instagram (or was it facebook?), then Twitter, then email and finally we exchanged phone numbers ! It’s equal parts amazing and cool to find people just like you not so far (but far enough) away. Most our conversations were/are centred around possible meetings, collaborations and even holidays. I haven’t met these girls but I feel like I have known them forever . Is it because I stalk them ? Possibly. It’s healthy stalking though! Heh.

One of these attempts to meet was when Sitwat asked me to come and photograph her wedding in Karachi. WHATTTT!!!? Super huge honour right there in itself when a fellow photographer asks you to come photograph their wedding. Trying to be as un-excited as possible so we didn’t jinx it -I couldn’t help but be super excited. I missed an amazing opportunity to travel to Pakistan earlier and I sure as heck didn’t want to miss this one.Alas, the visa procedures are SO OUT OF CONTROL that I didn’t get mine and I didn’t get to go for the wedding. This is the really short and sweet version of my story but do you sense the bitterness?

Instead, Insiya had to shoot her best friend(s) wedding- it’s kind of not fun if you have to concentrate on photographing AND having fun AND being a good friend during a wedding. Ever tried to shoot a wedding wearing full wedding outfit gear? Not easy.Despite that she did an awesome job.

I HAD to share some photos of this unreal bride from across the border- a wedding I should have shot but didn’t. I am definitely going to pay them a visit one of these days. Let’s see who stops me then!

All photos have been shot by Insiya Syed except for a few right at the end which have been shot by Kohi Marri.

Possibly my favourite photo of the lot. Reminds me SO much of our first shoot – Groom Hunting. This is just so real that it’s unreal!

Just a friendly reminder to please refrain from stealing or using these photos without the permission of the photographers. That is just not cool when you do that.

When Grazia Called {Month of Media Madness}

It’s just the way things work- weeks go by with nothing happening in your life and suddenly you are so busy that you have no time to do anything! Which is exactly what happened when Grazia called to say they wanted to feature us. Pretty exciting stuff considering it’s a national (and very cool) publication  and we were going to be a part of their first ever issue of Grazia Bride. Everything seemed perfect except we wouldn’t be able to make it for the shoot in Delhi due to prior commitments . We thought we had lost this very cool opportunity . Who said or rather how many people have said nothing is impossible if you just put your mind to it? We ,along with the Grazia team , decided that April and I would just have to style and shoot our own photo for the magazine! Sounds easier than it is really. For one, we had to shoot it in the same theme as the rest of the story. Secondly, we had to style ourselves AND the set (damn those gaindas that just kept falling ) AND take the picture AND worst of all- do this all while wearing high heels. Oh, did I forget to mention that we only had a few hours to do all this before I needed to catch an evening train? Somehow we managed to do all this in a few hours and just when we were ready to go-the electricity went! And it came again. Then went again. Quite the cruel joke. We did manage to get the photo though. And if I can say so myself, we did a pretty good job. What do you think? Could you tell ??

Here’s us in the magazine. We were in great company as well- Vishal Punjabi of The Wedding Filmer, Joseph Radhik, The Little Food Co. and Groovy Two Shoes.

We are pretty big fans of Sabyasachi so it was doubly exciting that he was the guest editor of the magazine. I really liked what he said so I thought I would add his article as well.

The Wedding  A&A

I didn’t take many photos at the wedding- I had lehenga arranging duties , okay!!!! I thought I should split the posts up anyway -Getting Ready and The Wedding. Just for fun ! You will finally see the groom-they really do get neglected ,don’t they? It was SUCH a fun wedding and I was sorry when it ended though I did sleep for like three days after. Here’s to good friends getting married to the loves of their lives and living happily ever after!

The Princess finds her Prince!

Man! Nothing like a cheesy title to catch your attention, is there?  There was no other way to put it really. Princess Mits found her Prince in Shining Armour! While I managed to photograph a bit of it, our favourite Starving Artist made a video! I have said it before and I say it again-very few  people in India make the cut for originality and absolute brilliance in video making. Starving Artist Videos is one and the other is….any guesses….. duh! The Wedding Filmer ofcourse. I hold back from featuring each and every video by these guys but if I could , I would. I just saw the last post I wrote about S.A.V and I am just repeating myself over and over. Apologies. I am getting old! and I LOVE THEM.

Since this seems to be the week to feature this wedding, I thought it only appropriate to have this beautiful video on the blog as well!

Happy Independence Day (and who won the Giveaway?)

For whatever India is, it is magnificent  . Don’t you think? The colours, the people, the culture. Never know what to expect!!!

Independence dayPhotos by Kismet Jewell Nakai

A friends facebook update reminded me of this poem and how apt it is for a day like today-

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
  Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee  Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake
~ Rabindranath Tagore~
Now, onto some exciting things! THE GIVEAWAY! I have to admit I was kind of worried about the response initially- would no one want to participate in our giveaway? Have people stopped reading the blog? Will I have to make up entries? Yes, I thought these things and its probably because we have been the worst bloggers in the world and have more giveaways than posts. Then when SO many of you entered, it made me happy beyond words ! Thank you for being awesome.  Picking the winners was no easy task but we had to choose someone and after much thought , our two winners are MEGHA SHARMA BHAGAT and MEENAKSHI KAPUR!  Congratulations to you both! You just won yourself a Ketchup bag each. Send us your addresses so we can you the bags ASAP.
Thank you Ketchup for being so terrific and here is hoping we have many more collaborations to come!
