Is it tea time?

If ever the rare occasion arises where more than two of your childhood friends are in town at the same time, and one happens to be getting married -make sure you don’t let the opportunity slip . Plan a pre-wedding, tea party in the park because you never know when you will all be in the same place next.

How to plan a pre-wedding tea party in under 24 hours-

1. Start planning weeks in advance but don’t do anything till the morning of.

2. Choose a theme- mad hatters tea party? Jungle safari tea party?

3. Find the closest location to your house to have this tea party (preferably a park).

4. Bring the bride-to-be to the park and carry out traditions we see happening at weddings all the time, but have no idea about the significance of them.

5. Dress the bride up as a hippie/ masai warrior/ aboriginal bride.

6. Don’t forget the pretty floral tea cups (that the bride will claim as her own, after.)

7. Bring some plastic animals that play along with the theme of ‘jungle safari tea party’.

8. Don’t forget the friends! What’s a party with just some plastic animals and balloons?

9. Flowers are a necessity!

10. Don’t forget it IS a tea party so you need the essentials like a tea-pot ,some cookies, fruit, raw vegetables and maybe some hot water to make tea with. (Extra points for a nice bright green tea pot with Frankenstein and his wife drawn on it)

10. Balloons are always a nice addition.

11. Embrace the party crashers even if they come on a tractor or a motorcycle in the middle of the park (anything is possible in India!). Take some photos with them! (Remembered I had posted this on Instagram a few months ago. A little bit of baby doll never hurt anyone .)park

12. Last, but not least- take plenty of photos because like I said-days like these are rare. It’s even more fun when you see the photographs a year and a half later. (Party tip: Bring along a fuji instax !)

And, THAT my friends is the way to organise a fun day in the park before all the wedding madness begins . I have never really attended a ‘bachelorette’ party , but I don’t think any will be able to top this one.

Of Marry-ment and Marigolds

The internet is a wonderful place-the kind of connections you can make because of it are countless. If used correctly that is. Ofcourse, it gives stalkers the best opportunity to stalk and be creepy but you have to be a smart internet user. Anyway, you all already know that. I am only talking about it because it was because of our mutual healthy stalking that I discovered the amazing photographers Sitwat & Insiya who are based in Karachi.

First, we stalked each other on Instagram (or was it facebook?), then Twitter, then email and finally we exchanged phone numbers ! It’s equal parts amazing and cool to find people just like you not so far (but far enough) away. Most our conversations were/are centred around possible meetings, collaborations and even holidays. I haven’t met these girls but I feel like I have known them forever . Is it because I stalk them ? Possibly. It’s healthy stalking though! Heh.

One of these attempts to meet was when Sitwat asked me to come and photograph her wedding in Karachi. WHATTTT!!!? Super huge honour right there in itself when a fellow photographer asks you to come photograph their wedding. Trying to be as un-excited as possible so we didn’t jinx it -I couldn’t help but be super excited. I missed an amazing opportunity to travel to Pakistan earlier and I sure as heck didn’t want to miss this one.Alas, the visa procedures are SO OUT OF CONTROL that I didn’t get mine and I didn’t get to go for the wedding. This is the really short and sweet version of my story but do you sense the bitterness?

Instead, Insiya had to shoot her best friend(s) wedding- it’s kind of not fun if you have to concentrate on photographing AND having fun AND being a good friend during a wedding. Ever tried to shoot a wedding wearing full wedding outfit gear? Not easy.Despite that she did an awesome job.

I HAD to share some photos of this unreal bride from across the border- a wedding I should have shot but didn’t. I am definitely going to pay them a visit one of these days. Let’s see who stops me then!

All photos have been shot by Insiya Syed except for a few right at the end which have been shot by Kohi Marri.

Possibly my favourite photo of the lot. Reminds me SO much of our first shoot – Groom Hunting. This is just so real that it’s unreal!

Just a friendly reminder to please refrain from stealing or using these photos without the permission of the photographers. That is just not cool when you do that.

The Wedding Present Dilemma!

Your best friend is getting married. You need to think of a present. Something meaningful. Something unusual. Something no one  has ever thought of before! Possibly one of the hardest things to do. I don’t know about you guys, but buying birthday presents for friends is something I find to be very challenging. If I am going to give a present, it should mean something otherwise what’s the point? You can just imagine what happens when it’s time to decide on a wedding present! Many of my friends never got one (sorry guys! now you know why!) -I just never found the right thing.

There is loads of inspiration out there -like on Pinterest that should make life easier! Alas, we all are quite familiar with Pinterest fails  so unless we know for sure that we can do it- we are too scared to try it!

Some people are easy to buy presents for because they are certain kind of people, there is no need to second guess what they may/may not like.

They may be hipsters.

In the end though, you just want some really really special to give! Last year, The Unreal Bride worked on a special present for one of our cousins wedding. The project was to make a cookbook with the family’s favourite recipes accompanied by some beautiful food photos. We have worked with food before and it’s fun but we really didn’t fathom the enormity of this project. Somehow though, we managed and the book looked fabulous. This post is an introduction to the wedding present project of the year – expect lots of food photos and maybe some recipes if you want! To give you an idea of what I am talking about- this photo shoot we did for Ketchup Bags  was around the time we were shooting for the cookbook!

The Wedding  A&A

I didn’t take many photos at the wedding- I had lehenga arranging duties , okay!!!! I thought I should split the posts up anyway -Getting Ready and The Wedding. Just for fun ! You will finally see the groom-they really do get neglected ,don’t they? It was SUCH a fun wedding and I was sorry when it ended though I did sleep for like three days after. Here’s to good friends getting married to the loves of their lives and living happily ever after!

Princess Mits gets ready.

The problem with an early morning wedding is that it’s early. *yawn* Getting ready takes a LOT of time and effort so you have to get it done right! Watching the most talented make up artist Amanender and his wife Kapila do their magic on the most beautiful bride was totally worth it. Loads of lovely light streaming in through the windows, pots of coffee and a few PJs (poor jokes) really made the morning memorable. Oh, and the fact that Anandita (aka Princess Mits) was getting married!!!

So, here you go-some of the photos from that morning.2013-09-10_0001 AA_0051AA_0042 AA_0043 AA_0044 AA_0046 AA_0052 AA_0053 AA_0055 AA_0054 AA_0059 AA_0060 AA_0061 AA_0062AA_0045 AA_0063 AA_0056 AA_0064 AA_0066 AA_0067 AA_0068 AA_0069 AA_0071 AA_0072 AA_0073AA_0047 AA_0075 AA_0076 AA_0077 AA_0078 AA_0079 AA_0080 AA_0081 AA_0082 AA_0083 AA_0084 AA_0086 AA_0070All photos are copyright of Kismet Jewell Nakai © 2013 so please no stealing or using without permission.
