Your best friend is getting married. You need to think of a present. Something meaningful. Something unusual. Something no one has ever thought of before! Possibly one of the hardest things to do. I don’t know about you guys, but buying birthday presents for friends is something I find to be very challenging. If I am going to give a present, it should mean something otherwise what’s the point? You can just imagine what happens when it’s time to decide on a wedding present! Many of my friends never got one (sorry guys! now you know why!) -I just never found the right thing.
There is loads of inspiration out there -like on Pinterest that should make life easier! Alas, we all are quite familiar with Pinterest fails so unless we know for sure that we can do it- we are too scared to try it!
Some people are easy to buy presents for because they are certain kind of people, there is no need to second guess what they may/may not like.
They may be hipsters.
They might be coffee loving people. Via
They may be Breaking Bad kinda people.Via
Or the kinds who love all things pretty.Via
The ‘vintage’ people.
They could just be regular people .

In the end though, you just want some really really special to give! Last year, The Unreal Bride worked on a special present for one of our cousins wedding. The project was to make a cookbook with the family’s favourite recipes accompanied by some beautiful food photos. We have worked with food before and it’s fun but we really didn’t fathom the enormity of this project. Somehow though, we managed and the book looked fabulous. This post is an introduction to the wedding present project of the year – expect lots of food photos and maybe some recipes if you want! To give you an idea of what I am talking about- this photo shoot we did for Ketchup Bags was around the time we were shooting for the cookbook!
What is the most creative present you have ever given anyone? Tell us! We would love to know!

While looking for someone to design a header for our blog , we focussed our search entirely within ETSY– a great place to buy and sell all things handmade! There are so many creative people out there and we thank Kajal for telling us about it, otherwise we might never have known!
While we did find our logo/header designer(look up) , we also came across alot of other cool artists – one especially cool artist is Nan Lawson.
What caught our eye at Nan’s shop were these awesome custom made portraits which we knew would be perfect for our Thursday Thought Section!
Custom made portrait.
Think about it- you’re newly married or you’ve just had a baby and you want something different to remember the time by? How awesome would it be to get a portrait like this- so original and unique? This is *almost* as cool as an Unreal Photo! [I know- slightly vain, but hey! we had to put it out there 🙂 ]
It’s a perfect present from the bride to the groom or the other way around, or for an anniversary ! You can find some more of her custom portraits here on her website.

She does a whole lot of other stuff which is worth a look and if you are wondering why we are going on and on about her- its simply because we think her style is great!! And when her shop opens up again, we are going to be first in line for a custom portrait!
We love books!
and we love coffee!
If you want to see some more of her artwork , you can find her on facebook as well!
All artwork featured here belongs to the artist-Nan Lawson.

At most Indian weddings there is this one carefully selected relative and a very large handbag (which doesn’t necessarily go with her outfit!). This relative (and the handbag) are planted for the sole purpose of stowing away envelopes filled with cash that will be thrust into the brides, grooms or immediate family members’ hands throughout the wedding. In India, we call this shagan – and this shagan money serves as a wedding present.
Perhaps this whole process needn’t to be so cumbersome – we found some creative solutions to the shagan storage problem.

Even though you might need an armed guard lurking around the table atop which you place these vintage looking boxes and cases or birdcages painted pretty colours and decorated with flowers – these ideas are beautiful as well as practical.
